President  Mrs. Carole Tabbron's  Message:

As I write this message, the first day of ‘Spring’ has dawned with cloudless blue skies and warm sunshine, could this be the promise of good things to come?

With Easter being so early, our programmes for the Spring/Summer have overlapped somewhat this year and so, on Friday 8th April, we come to the end of the Spring season with the annual Spring Buffet. This will be held at University House. It is always a most enjoyable occasion and we hope that it will be well supported.

Our Summer Outing takes place on Thursday 19th May. In the morning we will visit Towneley Hall just outside Burnley in Lancashire (see maps below).

The Hall dates from the 14th Century and was the home of the Towneley family for over 500 years. It is set in 400 acres of parkland and, in addition to the historic house, it has an art gallery, museum and extensive gardens. We will start the day with refreshments at Towneley Hall before a guided tour of the house with an opportunity to explore the gardens if you so wish. At lunchtime, we will return to the coach for the short journey to Boundary Mill in Colne. Here we will enjoy a typical ‘Lancashire’ lunch of fish, chips and mushy peas (poached fish and gluten free batter are available on request as well as a vegetarian option). We will then have plenty of time during the afternoon to explore the complex. The store also has a fine coffee shop with an open terrace looking out over Pendle Hill (home of the famous Pendle witches) for that all important ‘cuppa’ before we return to Leeds.

On Tuesday 21st June, the Annual Garden party will take place at the home of Janet and Barry Herbert. We are especially grateful to them both for generously agreeing to host the garden party once again. Hopefully it will be warm and sunny and we will have a Midsummer’s day in which to enjoy all the delights of their beautiful garden.

As usual, we end the Summer Programme with the AGM on Thursday 30th June.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being President this year and can’t quite believe that the year has gone by so quickly. I would like to place on record my thanks to all the members of the committee for their support and guidance throughout the year and to all the Club members who have attended the events and made them so successful.
